Default Winter battery storage ,charging advice

I work at a park and the owner stores around 20 or so carts from Nov toMay.He says he charges them monthly, but come spring we end up with a few dead batteries, some boiled over(acid on concrete floor) I was going to suggest he charge each cart till pack reaches full voltage,36,48,etc then disconnect pack positive/neg cable.or would he have to disconnect one cable from each individual battery.Rather than charge monthly. Open to suggestions (un heated storage)
