Default Trying to find out where to start with an '86 Club Car

I recently acquired a 1986 Club Car DS electric for free. It is in rough shape (no batteries, fiberglass body damage). I am new to the forum, and new to golf carts. I have been reading through different threads and am not sure where to start or if I should sell it and get something in better condition. Any help is much appreciated.

If you want to keep it, it can be fixed, but my first move would be to put some batteries in it and see if the drivetrain has problems....if it runs good, go for it, if not....look twice..

That’s a great start to a build. What condition is the aluminum frame in?

I should have a set of 8v batteries (6) that I would sell for core value as soon as my conversion to LiPO is done. Not sure if you would be interested since yours should be a 36v cart. Can’t guarantee the quality of the batteries. They were at 0v when I had the cart stored in central Texas over the summer. I was able to charge them, and get about 15 mile range out of them. They are currently pulled from the cart with the battery conversion started.

I am in Richmond, don’t have plans to be on the north side any time soon though.

I havent had a chance to even pressure wash it yet. As far as I can tell, the aluminum is in good condition. Should I look to buy Trojan batteries or something reconditioned?

I might be interested, but am not sure when I will be down south either.

I would check the welds. My 92 I just got in July had some welds in the front that were cracked.

Here are some photos. I will clean it up and start checking everything before getting batteries

Can you post some pictures of the electrical components? Might be some obvious things folks on here can point out...

Looks pretty darn good for an 86!
