![]() So after my Crown 190’s started getting weak I was frustrated at a camp out when my cart decided to die fairly quickly. The kids were all disappointed and I was not happy they missed the fun of cruising around the woods. I called around trying to buy some Ranger 190’s until I found a guy who talked me into Trojan 48v lithiums. He suggested 2 but I really wanted to maximize my overall range so I added 3. My cart has an Alltrax 500 amp controller, it’s lifted with tires larger than I would have gone with, and it has a stereo with subwoofer. I also have a high torque motor. Every day the kids are getting bigger and the wife is after me to upgrade to a 6 seater. The future may see me buying an extension kit (have a neighbor who did his). Anyway I hope these work out. I am somewhat aware of why a lower AH LI battery is better than a FLI but it’s still new to me. If this extends my range and I am happy I may add a 4th. I hope I get over 30 miles with 3 batteries but would be elated to get over 40 with a 4th. The cart runs very strong now and it’s cruising at 26 mph (I lowered it) with no power loss like before.

![]() Each battery is 30Ah, so you have 90Ah there. I think you'll be able to get 30 miles, but it all depends on driving style, load, speed, etc. But you can always add another battery as you said!
Looks like you are still installing, I see some ring terminals disconnected. Also you haven't linked the batteries up with the CAN bus cables yet. Don't forget to add the CAN bus termination plug at either end of the chain. Have fun! |

![]() You would get 30% more range if you added a fourth battery.

![]() You will get roughly the same range as brand new 270Ah lead acid batteries as it is now. Adding a fourth would be like having 360Ah lead acid.
You only need about 1/3 the Ah’s when converting from lead acid to lithium for the same range. |

![]() Trojan rep is telling me that their 30ah batts are really 34.6 ah and that 3 of those would be 104ah. I have asked for some documentation or a technical explanation, I am awaiting same before I make that representation myself.

![]() right but a 104ah lead acid is only about 40ah useable they can only be drained to 50% and they loose more capacity when faced with a higher amp load... And you have 104ah useable which would equal well over 200ah of lead acid.. lithium capacity is full capacity dained till the bms shuts it down to protect the cells from going even lower and actually causing damage.

It is far from equivalent, but I would expect him to tell you that. Discharge rates are less, you have a lot more than can go wrong (3 different BMS's, 3 diff sets of cells, etc). A single pack is far different than running 3 batteries in series. |

For that reason, I need to be 100% sure I give them accurate information. I have made it clear my Trojan rep that I will not represent to customers that 3 Trojan 30 AH Batteries have 104 AH capacity until someone with knowledge and authority (other than a salesperson) makes that representation to me. The reason I posted this was to see if anyone else here had heard that and could authoritatively document or dispute it. |

![]() I could see it having 34ah capacity but only advertising it as 30ah. It may only allow you to access 30ah before the BMS shuts it off, reason being to extend the life of the cells? Depending how sophisticated - which I doubt on a golf battery, maybe the BMS shut off point shifts over time as the cells wear, ensuring you always have 30ah over the guaranteed lifetime of the battery.
Could also be, has 34ah at maximum cell voltage, but the BMS shuts down and stops charging a bit below the max voltage, so you really only have 30ah. Again to extend cell life. |
