Default Gear noise

Hi,
I just installed a 1994 rear end and a D&D 6:1 motor in my 1986 marathon. motor runs great, but the gears in the rear end are really loud. I got the rear end off ebay and it had no oil in it when I got it. It turns smooth and the gears look good. I used 30 wt oil. Is there anything else I should do to quiet it down? I really don't want to run it too long and screw up the gears.

Thanks

You might try 90wt. gear oil. I have toned down older carts that way. You may want to check to see if it may be bearing noise also.

THe input shaft bearing is probably dry. These bearings are easily replaced. Remove motor and then the retaining ring. Shaft and bearing will slide out. The upgraded bearings will be sealed and therefore not subject to running out of oil that has to be slung up to the input shaft by main gear.
