Default 91 ezgo low rpms

hey folks, I have a 1991 ezgo marathon with the 295 robin eng, all stock.
it will crank up and run but not enough to engage the clutch, i can jack
the rear wheels up and it will go like crazy with no load on it.
i put a new fuel pump and a new carb(oem) on it and changed the
solonoid, voltage regulator, and ignitor of a running cart but it just will not
turn up enough rpms to pull itself.
any suggestions and thank you

It also helps for smoother take off to remove the drive clutch cover and remove the big spring that holds it open.

Are you sure the motor is starting or the starter just spinning it?

It is odd that you say you "I can jack
the rear wheels up and it will go like crazy with no load on it." but "it will crank up and run but not enough to engage the clutch". The only way it would feel load is if it is trying to engage the clutch. With it jacked up, make sure the axles are turning freely, brakes aren't dragging, gears running smoothly, etc. As Trig indicated, its possible your compression is low, but that would have happened slowly over time. If it happened suddenly, it is likely something failed or something needs maintenance. Could be something built a nest in the air box or muffler. Other than the fuel pump or carb, the other items are not likely culprits, so don't toss them out. May need them in the future.

I'd check the drive line and the compression first, let us know how it works out, and we can go from there.

Pull the drive belt off and see if your engine starts and goes through the governed RPM range.

yes the motor is running about half wide open
you can tell the difference.
with the wheels on the ground it will not move,
the clutch will not close up to engage the belt and
rear end but with the wheels up both clutchs are
working, one closes up and the other opens and the
wheels are rolling freely, when its on the ground I
can push it all over the yard without any effort.
The carb was spitting fuel out so bought a new one
and new pump and checked the valve settings . it set
up a few months before I fixed it (or at least tried).
waiting for a compression tester, thanks guys
