Default Yamaha G22 2003 electric blown controller

Hi there friends I have a Yamaha G22 electric golf cart I’m working on and the controller is completely blown. I’ve opened the controller and can see all the blown components and black marks on the casing. I’m happy to replace the controller but my question is this something that can just happen or is it caused by another part being faulty that causes the controller to blow in such a catastrophic way. When I first started looking into the problem with the cart the cart had simply stopped no go. The solenoid would sometimes click but intermittently and was making a slight buzzing sound so thought that must have been the problem so went about bypassing the solenoid by connecting the two large wires together across the solenoid but that just threw out a large spark when I touched the wires together so stopped straight away with that plan. Next I tested the coil voltage of the solenoid and on the red wire I had positive pack voltage to the negative on the battery but no voltage across the coil so I ran a wire from the negative side of the coil to the negative of the battery and the solinoid clicked but this is when I saw smoke from the controller so stopped. Have I caused the problem or was it likely the controller was already faulty or could the motor be short? Help 😬

Hi

seems my problem is a basket case and no one is game to answer lol, So another question I'm looking at replacement controllers and they are obviously very expensive. What does regen controller mean? I'm in Australia and replacement controllers from suppliers here are about 1000 dollars. Trying to find a good replacement from America but cant find any online that ship to Australia. A lot of websites are out of stock also. Any recommendations?

Thanks

Check out evdrives for an Alltrax controller, much cheaper and worked perfect right out of the box. They'll ship worldwide due to eBay global shipping program
