Default My EZ-Go Big-Block Project Thread

Hey folks! I wanted to create a thread so I have a place to dump project progress. I always enjoy carrying threads like this on my various projects, for referencing later when I need part numbers, or want to revisit work I did.

Here’s the story:

I bought the cart 2 weeks ago with a harbor freight 670cc v-twin Predator swapped in. The swap was maybe 70-75% completed, and the cart had a lot of other needs.

All the new things I’ve done:
- Throttle linkage
- Choke cable & replacement cover
- Brake rebuild kit
- Brake lines
- Shifter linkage
- Proper ignition
- Big battery
- Ground & Power cable upgrade
- “Custom” 2 inch hitch (custom is a stretch)

I gave it a proper rinse with a pressure washer and a ton of degreaser diluted through my foam cannon. Definitely made it look less condemned.

Parts on order & next plans:
- Quieter muffler/exhaust setup
- Radio & Speakers
- Dash pods for integrating speakers
- Switch panel with voltage meter
- Labeled fuse block
- 2” amber lights & reds (Front and rear)
- 20” light bar (up front for night driving)
- Tachometer
- Main power disconnect
- Shocks & Leafs
- Bearings
- Wheels & Tires (still not 100% sure which direction I want to go)
- Rear lift blocks (the rear isn’t lifted and it looks a little wonky in person)
- Paint or wrap
- Seat restoration or re-cover
- Pull top frame and sand/grind/paint
- Pull body and sand/grind/paint any places that look bad

The previous owner put a thick layer of black spray paint on everything, and its a little funky. Overall, the cart is now 95% completed and reliable. The last 5% in my mind is quieting the exhaust down, and testing everything for functional reliability.

This cart is pretty fast. It tops out comfortably at 30mph, and I haven’t cared to go any faster. I hope to get a tach on it soon to make sure I’m not revving it past 4500rpm (the safe zone for this motor), which will in turn let me see where max rev vs. max speed is at. I assume this thing would hit 35-45mph if I really pushed it.

I plan on doing a photo dump as soon as I hit 7 days as a registered member. 3 more to go
Thanks for looking!

I’ll have some better photos after this weekend when i do some of the radio & lighting upgrades i have planned. I was able to get a new set of wheels and tires on it yesterday, as well as a predator 670 factory muffler. i think i have a few things to figure out and fix with the new giant muffler in the way, but i can manage. hoping heat doesn’t become an issue. it will all be worth it to have the cart as absolutely quiet as it is now!

Very nice I like those wheels. How do you like the 670?

thanks! love the 670. haven’t driven a gasser golf cart in quite some time, so my baseline is a bit skewed. power is fantastic, i always have plenty on tap (for a golf cart/utility vehicle hybrid that is) and it so far seems to be a very reliable and simple motor. didn’t take me long to figure out what’s what and i had zero exposure to the platform in person until 3 weeks ago.

that’s a 6x12 utility trailer and i definitely could load it up with stuff and still yank it around.

the first pic is roughly 500lbs of mulch. didn’t complain or flinch, just handled its business

Glad you are putting the cart to use. I think using a golf cart for utility/house work is one of the best ways to get value out of the cost of all the upgrades. I have a 6x12 trailer also and I had at least 1000 lbs of mulch on it and my cart (with 670) towed it around without any problem at all. Good stuff!

agreed! with all that power on tap, i’d be silly to jump on my mower instead. i’ll pick the cart over the mower just because it has a roof to shield me from the unbearable texas sun. lol
