Default v twin pedal start

I watched a old YouTube video from Preston Ashley titled V Twin Conversion that shows a vanguard v twin with a starter generator hooked up. I didn't think this was possible. Has anyone here tried this on a v twin?

There were some others on this site that have done it. IF I remember right both put the S/G in front of the engine also. These things are always about finding the space. The work carts have a lot more area to fit things. Bear in mind that probably a modded engine without a compression release would not work.

Starter gens can work with Vtwins if you have a stock cam with the compression release intact. A performance cam doesn't have the compression release and requires a high torque starter for long term success.

A lot of people did them, you need the pulley or a clutch with one. Remember the cylinders on a twin are smaller so they don't turn over harder than a 420 single, probably easier, assuming comp release of course. In fact the 1.3 ratio rockers on my 420 made the comp release work better. It has a cheater cam that came with comp release. But I also did a stock 420 and both have run fine for many years with the stock G9 gen starting them.
