Default Yamaha G9 solenoid

Hi everyone, new to this site this is my first post. I have a G9 that just quit running, it seems to have something to do with the solenoid. I have tested all the wires and they test ok. Should the black wire on the solenoid have power? When I press the pedal it has weak power. I have messed with it so much I can't remember now but I did get it to run but it would not shut off. I am having trouble following the wiring diagrams . If someone can tell me how to test the solenoid that would be great. Thanks

Welcome!!First things first.Check the battery-voltage.If its' less than 11.6,it will be lucky to make the solenoid click.A dim light is a good sign of low-voltage.Make sure all connections are clean and tight from the battery, all the way thru the system.A dirty or loose ground will drive you nuts.If you have for example: 12.4v at the battery,12.4 at the solenoid, and it drops drastically when you press the pedal, and the starter doesn't spin, now you need to check grounds and connections. If you put the tester to the starter-side of the solenoid, press the pedal and get nothing, the solenoid is bad.To check your grounds quickly, take the clamp of your test-lite and connect to + on the battery. Now take the probe and touch any grounds where they connect(starter,engine-case,etc..)you should have a good, bright lite.If not,you have a ground problem. If the battery is low, charge it up,put the cart in "Nuetral",try to start it.If it starts, check the voltage at the battery,it should be at least 12.5 and slowly climbing at low rpm.You can also take the battery to an auto-parts store to be tested.Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply, I will check those things. The problem now is it starts up and wont shut off. I unplug the voltage reg and it quits, checked and it doesn't seem to be charging. I think (hope ) its something simple because it ran great and then just stopped.

Think I read somewhere on here that a faulty voltage reg. could cause this. But I'd check for a sticking pedal switch before replacing the VG. And I'd serach for the thread.

I removed (un plugged) the voltage regulator and it starts up and runs good. So I think that may be it. Does anyone know if a bad voltage reg will make it not charge properly? while it was connected I ran it full throttle and got only 13.56 volts at the battery.

Yes, that is the primary job of the VR.

Just thinking, test to see if the generator is putting out.

This is what I have done, replaced brushes in generator, disconnected brown wire that goes to the silonoid (was plugged into positive cable going back to generator) now it shuts off. Plug in the brown wire it will not shut off. But it is not charging. Never checked if it was charging before though. Read somewhere when you disconnect a generator you must re polarize it. Anyone heard of this? Any help would be great!
