Diode is polarity sensitive. White stripe/ band goes to the positive side. Resistor on the big terminals don't matter. They are not polarity sensitive.

I haven't messed with the cart since I posted due to work but I have the next few days to try to dig in.

I checked the throttle microswitch and have continuity in the open and closed positions. Seems odd.

Given that the F/R bracket is rusted so severely, I'm just going to replace the entire assembly. The entire mechanism moves when I change from F to R.

I'll also be replacing the solenoid today in case it is the culprit. I went ahead and bought a couple more just to have on hand. I did make sure to get the diode on in the correct orientation this time.

I've got the charger port disassembled and I have continuity on the reed switch. Even though the cart ran with the reed switch wire disconnected, is it safe to assume this needs to be reconnected to the positive battery terminal?

For reference, in the third picture in my original post, the clipped red wire is what leads to the reed switch.

And just to sweeten the pot here, I just found a loose wire tap/splitter underneath the F/R switch. The blue plastic kind you use to tap into an existing power wire. And it has been used.

Your reed switch has been disabled. The green wire going from the pack positive to the fnr micro switches is supplying power now.

Well, I figured out what was keeping me from moving. A stupid molex. One pin on the molex from the throttle to the controller burned up and wasn't making contact. The red wire. Took the plug apart and found the problem.

Now, I get to work on unscrewing the rest of this cart. Let the cussing begin.

Apparently that connection was weaker than the throttle micro switch. Sounds like it may be broke inside. I've seen them break internally and will stay in the made position, which will cause your solenoid to stay engaged when the key is on.

Are you talking about the throttle microswitch? Do you think I should just go ahead and replace it? At this point I'm happy to swap a $30 part instead of having to mess around and try to get another controller.

I have nothing to offer by way of advice, but I do have to say I loved reading your story. You may have a future writing books.

I appreciate the comment but that sounds a lot like too much work for me.
