Default Will 36V Motor Run on 48 Volts?

Finally getting around to fixing up my marathon 3 wheeler. I have every component needed to go 48 Volts. My question is can I get the old motor rewound/rebuilt and use it once I go 48?(needs it anyway). Or would I need a different motor to handle the higher voltage. I bought an alltrax 500 amp controller and 400amp solenoid, HD f&r, all 2 gauge cables.

Run the 36v motor in 48. You’ll get more rpm. They usually last a while even on the increased voltage. Then when you have an issue, you can get it rewound or just get another one.

I would drop the 500 amp controller down to 400 amps. And run the stock 36 volt motor on 48 volts. You will be happy

So you're saying 500 amps would be pretty hard on the motor?

Depends on the motor. Some 3-wheelers had motors with Class B insulation rather the Class H, so max temperature is about 50°C lower.

I been running my 36 volt motor on 48 volts for 10 years now. Zips right along with plenty of off the line torque. I have done wore one set of batteries with it. 8 years on a set isnt too bad. But is that the norm, I dont have a clue. I just know what is going on with mine. Run the sucker as is on 48 volts.

Same here, I have been running my 1994 EZ GO 36v motor on 48v for about 8 years with outstanding results! I have my 500a Alltrax cranked all the way up too!
