Yamaha G29 wheel spacers
I have a G29 with a Rhox 6"lift and running 14" tires. While driving the cart its seems very unstable. I have the HD springs in the rear and was wondering if adding wheel spacers would give more of a stable feel while driving. Ideas on what the spacing should be on the front and rear would be very helpful. Thanks!

Re: Yamaha G29 wheel spacers
A wider stance will give more side stability during turns, but that's where the benefits end. Turning radius will increase. Steering effort will increase. Front tires might rub while turning sharply. So adding wheel spacers is not without it's issues. What you don't want to do is cause other problems trying to fix a problem.
Your cart looks like it's "wide enough" to me, just by looking at the photo. Not sure I'd make it wider if I didn't have to. What kind of handling issues are you having? Can you describe? |

Re: Yamaha G29 wheel spacers
It likes to dart from one side to the other especially when you add weight (people). I'm thinking its a weight distribution issue putting all the weight to the rear and making the front end float. It's very hard to drive. My wife refuses to drive it lol. I checked the alignment and seems ok.

Re: Yamaha G29 wheel spacers
I just installed the same lift and mine does the same thing. Where do you have your camber adjustment set? Mine is in the middle holes and I think I need to move it to the outer holes to lean the tires out at the top. Right now they are leaned in at the top.

Re: Yamaha G29 wheel spacers
I have it the middle as well. I tried the outer holes and made it worse. I've tried everything from a new steering rack, tie rods, wheel bearing and replaced every bushing in the front end. I'm stumped. I tried a low profile tire and it seemed to drive much better but we like the look of the bigger tire

Re: Yamaha G29 wheel spacers
I’ve tried different adjustments from in, out and zero and it really doesn’t make a difference. The only thing I haven’t tried was widening the stance a little but as noted above there are some drawbacks to that.

Re: Yamaha G29 wheel spacers
Our cart came with a 6" Jake's spindle lift. We experienced the same problems as you did. I installed the Jake's HD rear springs, adjusted the toe to near zero, added a clay's basket to the front (for extra weight and storage), fabricated a front steering dampener from one used on a 69 VW and we have a stable ride now. I added some spacers on the rear just to better match the increased width because of the Jake's spindles.
Good Luck Robert |
