2005 Yamaha - new batteries draining fast

Have a 2005 Yamaha Model - G22E buggy

A little history, acquired this buggy a few weeks ago knowing it had issues. Completely dead.

Installed new batteries yesterday and prior to connecting them, the voltage read 50 volts. Landed the positive lead from the cart to the battery and nothing worked, no clicks or any indication of power. Within 10 minutes of troubleshooting I noticed the voltage was dropping fast, approximately 42.5 volts. Disconnected the positive lead to stop the batteries from draining more.

While troubleshooting for those 10 minutes I believe the solenoid is bad, getting it checked today to confirm. Basically had 50 volts on the coil of the solenoid and the contact remained opened.

Questions:
1) Would a faulty solenoid drain the batteries that fast?
2) Any suggestions as far as where to start or what components are typically know to leak/short to ground.

I am planning to work on it more this evening. Downloaded a wiring diagram last night and with the batteries disconnected I will start by checking resistance from the positive side of the circuit to ground disconnecting items in the process.

Just confirmed the coil is bad, I assume this could drain the batteries?
