86 DS Clutch removal issue-
Hey all- Looking for some advice. The KF82 in my cart is going out to J&M for a rebuild. I managed to get the flywheel off with a puller without issue. Followed some advice I found online for a homemade puller to get the primary clutch off and have now gotten myself in a tough situation. The rod I tried to use to push it off wasn't hard enough so it is stuck in the bore of the clutch and everything I have tired has failed to get the primary off. I am sending the whole thing to J&M but I fear because of my screw-up, that they may have to destroy the clutch to get it off the crank. If this is the case- are there any other clutches (more modern/easily accessible) that can be used in place of the original? I see an occasional original listed- but they want almost as much for that clutch as the rebuild of the motor will cost. I am not interested in doing a clone swap at this time. Any advice or guidance would help. Thanks

Re: 86 DS Clutch removal issue-
Yes you should abandon that original Salsbury drive clutch that came stock on your '86. It's a bad design and upgrading to the 1988+ drive clutch would be highly recommended. It's a direct swap. No modification needed.
You don't have to find an original clutch and pay several hundred bucks to replace yours. You can order a 1997+ drive clutch and it will fit right on your 1986 motor. I have a 1990 cart (same exact motor) and just upgraded my clutch a few weeks ago. Check out the video and read my description below the video for more details: |

I'd also recommend that you upgrade the driven (rear) clutch as well if you can to the 1988+ style. There may be a slight belt alignment issue between your new drive clutch and your original driven clutch. This is a direct swap.
Here's a thread on Club Car clutches that might be helpful: https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=134358 And here's a video I did recently on driven clutches: |

Re: 86 DS Clutch removal issue-
Thank you for confirming my suspicions. After looking around- I either have a newer cart than I was told or someone already upgraded in the past. My primary looks like the more modern clutch already- so thank you for confirming that the FleaBay aftermarket clutches will work. I will look into the secondary as well. Much appreciated!!

Also- after watching your video I can confirm I have the newer style secondary. At this point I am wondering if my cart isn't newer than I thought.

Good to hear you're all set with the driven clutch. Yeah, grab a new FleaBay 97+ drive clutch, swap the s/g pulley and call it a day. What's the serial number under the passenger side glove box? Is the plate still there?
