Yamaha gas cart problems starting
Curious if anyone knows what this could be.. I have a 2011 Yamaha gas cart and I have an intermittent starting issue. Most times it works great then all of sudden you hit the gas pedal and nothing. No sounds, nothing. Keep hitting it or turn key off an on and it starts and goes again for a bit until it does it again. It seems to be getting worse though. Any ideas?

I can get one easily. How would I test it? I am not sure where the peddle switch solenoid is? Is that the only solenoid? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Yamaha gas cart problems starting
First off check all fuses peddle switch is under the access panel by the peddle need to make sure you have 12v up to it and leaving it if that checks out then you need to locate the solenoid and and see if you have 12v on the small wire when peddle is pressed if you do one large terminal should have 12v all the time and the second one should have 12v while peddle is pressed if that checks out pull the rubber cap off the starter generator and inspect the brushes

Under the rubber floor mat. I bet it's the pedal switch.

Re: Yamaha gas cart problems starting
I have it all taken apart. I took the pedal switch apart and cleaned inside and stretched the spring a little. It is so intermittent that it is hard to diagnose. I am just wondering if I should put a new switch in or try this again after cleaning etc. From all I see it seems these switches are an issue. Thanks for the help.

So I changed the pedal switch. No different. Any way of checking the starter generator? When it stops I tapped the starter and it went again. Not sure if coincidence or not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Yamaha gas cart problems starting
Pull the rubber cap off the end of the starter/generator look at the brushes if they are near the holder that is likely the issue if you have any mechanical ability it's a 20 dollar fix

Re: Yamaha gas cart problems starting
Perfect. No doubt the starter has to come off to do this. I did not realize there was a rubber cap to remove. Most likely is the brushes rather than internal starter wiring?
