Plug a scan tool into it and its easy. You may want to pull the sensor off and make sure the magnet isn't broken, that's an easy check.

If you don't have a scan tool or access to one, you don't have a lot of options unless you can find a known good one and put it on.

You don't need a scan tool, You can test the speed sensor function with a Voltmeter.

Raise the passenger side rear wheel but keep the driver side wheel on the ground.

Disconnect the 3-pin connector from the speed sensor.

Measure the voltage between Black/White and Red on the harness connector, it should be 15v.

Measure the voltage between Black/White and Green on the harness connector, it should be 5v.

If the voltages are correct, connect the 3-pin speed sensor back.

Measure the voltage between Black/White and Green as you slowly turn the passenger wheel by hand, it should vary from 5v to 0 as the wheel turns.

Here is Your cart wiring diagram for reference:

Ok so if mine is bad are there different types to upgrade to gain performance or just stick with OEM?

If yours is bad get a speed sensor and speed magnet combo from RevolutionGolfCars.com and it will get your 2004 Precedent to typically 19mph or more.

By the way the magnet was in pieces when I pulled it off, great call. So any way to upgrade these or just by OEM?

By OEM do You mean stock 8 poles?

There are two kinds of high-speed magnets (4 poles) depending on the Motor, the early Precedents had a GE motor with a flat speed sensor that snapped on the end of the Motor:

Later models have an ADC motor with a 'Top Hat' speed sensor that screws on the end of the Motor:

I had the ADC type motor with the cup like sensor. Surprised that magnet came apart like that it was literally in pieces....

Did the magnet come apart only after you removed its center screw or was it already in pieces loose inside?

common issue. Speed sensor itself going bad is more rare.

Glad you found it
