got it running then quit
So i go my 89 gas ez go running today after alot of reading and help from you guys on here. But my issue is that as i was cruzing along down the road i noticed it was smoking alot and then it quit after running for about ten minutes. Back to the same issue i had before. I ended up taking the ignitor and voltage regulator of the plate and wire wheeled it all clean and then i had a/an great amount of spark (works really well no). But now im not getting any fuel again. Its going to the carb but not making it into the motor. So back tearing apart i go and to the parts store for all new fuel lines and new filters. Wish me luck if any one has a great suggestion to why its not getting fuel into the motor again please help. Oh yeah forgot to mention that this cart has set for almost two years without running before i got ahold of. Guess being a ASE and ICAR tech sometimes pays off. But i will say that these carts are a little different than a car.

Re: got it running then quit
ment to mention that the gas is all new and i am running it a little heavier on oil to make sure that everything is ok and well lubed up before i start on the body on this thing. Just want to make sure it will run properly and for a while before i start dumping money into body work and customization.

Hey Blazman,
If this sat for two years and you've recently rebuilt it, then welcome to the world of repetitive carb cleaning. I've had to take my carb off and thoroughly clean it three times due to it sitting with old gas (i.e. flaky varnish) sitting everywhere in the system. Once you run the cart for a bit, everything comes loose in the system, and it bungs the carb again. Of special note, make sure the carb bowl is clean (wire brush on a Dremel is a good idea), that the feed bolt at the bottom of the bowl is aligned right with the bowl notches, that all jets are clean, and that the intake jet from the fuel line is non-bunged. Fortunately, I did a little better than BCM who has cleaned his carb umpteen times after his cart sat. As a separate note, when you rebuilt the engine, did you redo the crank seals? Some of the pumps on these carts use crankcase pressure to drive the fuel pump. Or, even with new seals, a cracked vacuum line can have the same effect. |
