Default 12 volt battery to run lights

I was talking to a guy this weekend who said you can put a 12 volt marine battery in to run lights radio and stuff. He said you just put a diode in so your bank wont pull from this battery but you could still charge ti with your stock charger. I am wondering if anybody has done that and if so what size diode and wouldnt this hurt the charger?

He is wrong. Do not attempt this "trick". Sure, it can be done, but it WILL DEGRADE the pack and shorten it's lifespan. Install the aux battery and charge it with a seperate charger.

You can either add a 12v battery and charge it seperate or get a voltage reducer to run your lights and radio off of.

Ok was talkin with our electrician here at work who used to also work on carts and he said he never heard of doing that either. We were trying to figure how the big battery wouldn't pull from the PAC. Well thanks guys

Maybe we need to clarify. You put a 12v battery somewhere in your cart. You do not hook it to the existing batteries. Run your 12v accessories off of it and charge it seperate on a 12v charger.
