I’ve been doing quite a bit of reading and have a question. If I get the cam and rev kit or possibly CPP springs, billet push rods, retainers, and timing advance key, will that result in the need of a high torque starter?

You will want the high torque starter because the CPP cam does not have a compression release, so it's difficult for the stock starter to spin the engine. Upgraded battery and starter cables help too.

Oh man, deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole! What starter is recommended and where is best to get it?

Yep! It requires some sheet metal trimming and longer mounting bolts, too.

I will say this, on the 16 with a cam you can get away with a good/new stock starter with 4 gauge cables and a good battery. The engine that I have is set up this way and worked fine for me. If you are using the stock 8 gauge cables you might have issues.

Well I think I’ve decided against a cam for now. I don’t want to have to upgrade the starter and possibly deal with needing a upgraded carb.

I’m getting ready to order a rev kit, I’m just trying to decide between the CPP Isky springs or to just get the kit with the shims.

Just get the springs and Billet Rods and be done with it. You are already in there and the springs are off, may as well spend the few extra dollars and know you have a solid valve train no matter what.

When you say "billet rods" are you talking push rods or connecting rods?

I just realized that I never answered this! I went with billet push rods, the Isky springs, and advanced timing key from CPP. I am very happy with my choices.
