Got the engine yesterday. Going to have to call for wiring the rectifier. Tore the gas tank and air cleaner assembly, and exhaust off. Wanted to run it all but the clearance wouldn't allow. Anyways, getting the air filter adapter, jet, and cone filter. Then a simple header. May use the tank that came with it for a while but prob add a fuel pump and use the large factory marathon tank later. Anyways, does anyone sell a throttle bracket? And what of the factory throttle bracket can I ditch? Here's and overhead view

Depends on how you want it, with mine I took the cover off and pulled the governor parts out. I put a 3/8 tap full of grease in the hole and rag inside and tapped it part way through. Put a 3/8 set screw in the hole with a little teflon tape on it to seal. Made sure it was clean inside and put the cover back on. Did not put new blue loctite on the bolts and later they came loose and leaked oil out, so don't do that. If you don't take the governor out you wont do all that.

There are many ways to do the throttle, many use that same arm and hook your pedal cable and a return spring to it. Just drill holes in the arm. Search around you can find posts and photos and threads on it in the clones section. Vegas may have a bracket I don't know.

I'm not working over the engine but I guess I'll take the governor out so that I don't have to feel the surging and worry about it coming apart.

Took the governor out. Did you take the low oils sensor out too?

I left mine in, but now taking it out because the new billet rod hits it. HD springs are $20 or something, timing key couple bucks, it will run nicer and you wont damage the valves floating them and you don't need a governor. If you can get another lash cap and the retainer so you have them on both valves, and another spring seat so they are on both. I had those given to me free.

Ok I'll just take mine out then. Springs would be easy, but how do you change the timing key?

Have to pop the flywheel off. Take the shroud off, take nut off and remove the screen and stuff. Put nut back on until the crank is still inside it a couple threads. Take a big hammer or sledge and hit the nut flat so you dont dent one side in. Usually you have to bump it but you don't have to hit it that hard. Its better if the engine can move, you are popping the crank out of the flywheel actually so you want it to move. Typical the flywheel just pops loose. If you have a smaller hammer you can put a plate or something to cover the nut flat so you can whack it without damage. Use a steel hammer the shock is what does it. I just took mine off swung a 5lb sledge at the nut from about 8" away it came right off. I last had it off in 2012 when new. When you put it back on you have to advance against the key, turn the flywheel the direction it runs against the key and tighten. Make sure the taper is completely clean on both sides.
