Put your volt meter on that battery. Use clips or something to hold the meter led's on the battery. Drive the cart and watch the voltage on the meter. If it drops very much, anything below 8.0 volts will be a bad battery. Sometimes you can kill a battery to where it will not recover it you keep using it and not charging it back up, even if it is Only a week or so old.

When you say new, how long was it from the time you installed the battery until you realized it wasn't being charged? It sounds like you drove the cart, drained the battery down and didn't charge it until after this post. If enough time went by with that battery discharged it may be ruined.
