Default Adapter to use public charging stations, but do factory chargers support 220v input?

Around my town there are a few of those public charging stations, which have a J1772 port (I believe) and are not directly compatible with our carts, but I'm thinking they can be.

They make these products: https://www.evseadapters.com/product...ter-for-ebike/
https://www.evseadapters.com/product...cycle-scooter/

I was thinking of cutting a hole and installing that then wiring it directly to the charger.

The issue is that public EV stations can put out 110v or 220v.

I think my cart's factory ICON charger is just a rebranded Delta-Q charger, but I'm not sure. It looks like this one:

https://delta-q.com/product/quiq-150...ttery-charger/

That charger spec states:
Quote:
AC input voltage range 108-265 VAC
When I look at my actual charger though, it clearly says 110Vac.

Anyone have any thoughts/insights on the charger itself?

Kinda looks like a chinese knockoff to me. Have done some work on a few DeltaQ chargers and none of them have chinese writing on them, and they've always got some kind of yellow somewhere, even the OEM versions they make for other manufacturers.

I think I would leave the public charging stations to the mini bikes. They might output 110v, but will they supply the 10+ amps your charger will likely draw?

The charger is available in two models, a 110/120 version and a 208/23/240 VAC version. You connect that to 220V and its all over for that puppy. I suspect the chargers are the same but configured via internal DIP switches and the supplied cable.

Here is the spec sheet on the charger

See Fairtax4me might have a point. If they're not actually delta-Q chargers, then buying the adapter alone won't suffice.

And the public EV chargers (I believe) have the same J1772 connection but the automobile sends it a little signal and then it turns on and provides either 110v or 220v depending only on the charger itself.

I guess the businesses that install them can do level 1, 2, etc so they can give you 110v while you shop so you use less electricity and it costs them less...or they can give you 220v while you shop so you're happier.

Using those adapters I linked trick the chargers into turning on, but if you happen to be hooked up to a 220v one your charger is screwed if you just install the adapter alone.

I found this quote on Reddit regarding a similar request:

Quote:
In general, you can't do that. The J1772 gives you two hot lines and a ground. There is no neutral with which you could derive 120V, as you typically would with North American split-phase power. And you can't treat the ground as a neutral, since EVSEs have built-in RCDs and will detect any ground fault and turn the power off.

You could use a step-down transformer, but it's going to have to be sized for the amount of current your battery charger takes.

Better would be to get a battery charger that can take 120V, 208V or 240V.

Now, you could just use an 882 ohm resistor and a 1N4148 diode from the pilot to ground to force the EVSE to supply power, but that's crude and not very standards compliant.
It seems like the charger is the main thing if I want to do the plug. It's also not a big deal if I don't, but it's kind of a cool, nice-to-have.

Leave it to the Chinese to copy down to the last detail

Im trying to get a hold of an extra charging cable to leave on cart with extension cord (or open up and make one long cord). I haven't had ANY luck finding one online and dealer hasn't gotten any extras

Weird, I'm pretty sure my dealer said a lot of people like two and I could just buy an extra. I think he picks them up from the manufacturer wherever he picks up more carts.

you can install a plug and socket in the line going to the charger and just keep a regular 3prone extension cord in the cart for backup, just put the male part on the charger side. Use a weather tight connector like this one.

At first I was very confused. I thought you wanted to install this on the charging cord, but you're saying on the charger itself, so that you can plug an extension cord into it. This is a pretty neat idea!

The only concern I'd have is...if you plug your normal charger in, wouldn't that electrify the prongs of this?

Yes, you could leave it capped, but maybe a basic switch would be a good idea too so it's always one or the other. Or am I misunderstanding?
