adding an alternator to a clone

A version is also used on a lot of Kubota garden tractors. I don't know off any factory one wire versions, but we can get the conversion regulators at work. Funny you mention samurais.... Check my avatar. lol |

Re: adding an alternator to a clone
Another advantage of using a 63-80 amp GM alternator is that there are rebuild kits and one wire conversions available for them. The alternators are mid '70s to mid '80s and are cheap from salvage yards. Grab the smaller brackets and it may help on the clone install too. One thing to remember in choosing an amperage is that cars used to have: a heater blower, high/low beam head lights, tail lights, brake lights, radio, wipers, dash and dome lights and maybe even trailer lights- all running on a 80 amp alternator.

Re: adding an alternator to a clone
Some people change the pulley and slow them down, that takes load off engine, lowers output and makes it do less at low rpm.

Re: adding an alternator to a clone
I know this is a old post but I'm doing this in my g9 with a clone swap and having a issue. When the alternator wire to the battery is hooked up the engine will not start it pops an cracks an back fires through the carb. If I disconnect the alternator wire from the alternator it starts and runs great. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is.
