1986 trx 200 sx
I am wondering if a 86 trx 200 sx four wheeler motor is going to have enough power to put in a 1988 ez go gas golf cart. Does anyone know the hp of a 200sx, or the weight of a 88 ez go.

Re: 1986 trx 200 sx
The ezgo is around 850 and I think. I couldn't find anything on the HP but a 350x is around 30 so I would say in the 15-18 range. It would be enough except isn't it an air cooled engine and it might have cooling problems being stuck under the cart seat, unles you ran some cooling fans. It would probably work ok ,but not realy a good choice of repowering

just found where the early ones were 12 and the 86 up's were 14, not really a good choice for an engine, unless you already have one

Re: 1986 trx 200 sx
Thanks for the info , the robin 244cc motor in it runs but the rear pinion gear is stripped so i thought id take this old four wheeler and do something like the suzuki go build in a different thread . I think it looks great whith that wide of a wheel base. i also have a 4, 6 and 10 year old that will be driving it so it doesnt have to do more than about 25mph for me to be happy. Any ideas on mph with stock spockets.

One more thing the stock motor is rated at 9 to 11 hp depending on rmp so wouldnt it be bettet than stock even at 12 or 13hp

Re: 1986 trx 200 sx
If you go with the Honda gearbox, then that little 200 will move the cart right along just fine. But it will be more like riding the quad than driving the cart, eg; shifting gears, etc. I considered it, even found a few threads where it's been done successfully. But the fact that it changed the driving experience so much is what made me check into a Honda clone instead.

Re: 1986 trx 200 sx
Yea, I think slammin gears in the cart would be great for myself. But my wife would hate it, and my 1/2 drunk buddies would screw something up just tryin to get it down the driveway.
I think your best to use the rear end out of the ATV. Maybe cutting the ATV frame just ahead of the engine, then grafting that all into the cart would keep most of it in tact, eg; motor & trans mounts, chain/shaft drive, exhaust hangers, etc. You'd still need to figure out throttle, choke & shifter linkages. Not to mention brakes (I'd bet the ATV has a much better brake system too). |

Re: 1986 trx 200 sx
I was going to try to do it like the one in the suzuki go build thread. As far as brakes, choke, and throttle. We got 20 iches of snow in the last 2 days and im a bricklayer so im going to have some time on my hands waiting for the weather to warm up. Any idea on top speed, dont know what the 4 wheelers top speed is. thanx for the input.

It would work great and having gears would be a bonus. Many times I found myself wishing I had a lower gear for climbing a big hill on my Robin 244cc powered Marathon.
