I outlined and began cutting the two main pieces that will form the mount for the steering rack and struts monday evening. I hope to finish up the steering this weekend. Monday is a campus wide furlough day (bad for my instruction, good for the cart build) so I may be able to make some good progress. Also more pics to come!

I managed to go play around in the garage and here is what I built. Some of the pieces haven't been cleaned up with a grinder yet so they are a bit rough. Also keep in mind that I am doing this with simple hand tools, a grinder, jig saw, hand drill, etc. and I am not a professional nor have I had any formal training in fabrication Now on to the pics:

This is the steering rack and the mount I built. The funny looking square tabs built in to the mount on top are there for a reason. This mount will also hold mounts for struts to tie the front suspension in to the frame, triangulating it and making the whole front end much stronger and stiffer.

More pics. The first shot is one of the strut mounts that will be welded to the steering rack mount at the top, the flat piece of steel cut for the other strut mount, and the tube end for one of the struts. The second shot is fitment on the Jakes bracket. Hopefully more to come this weekend!

Thank you! I just got a tubing notcher from HF yesterday, and a 1 1/2 in. bimetal holesaw blade. I plan to use the tubing from the poorly constructed roll cage I cut off the cart for the struts. If I make it to the garage today I will take some more pics.

P.S. I like the jeep cart TheNewGuy, my father restored/modified a 1948 CJ2A (it has a buick V6, power steering, Warn overdrive, Dana 44's, Hydroboost disc brakes, etc.).

More fabrication and mock up Next time I can work on it I may reposition the steering rack and/or tie rod bracket. There is a small ammount of bump steer, and I would like to see if I can eliminate most or all of it.
