Default Hot wire smell

I have a 2002 36v cart as long as I go wide open it work awesome. when I drive half pedal or less It smells like some of the wires are getting hot.Ive checked my connections and everything is tight.Any help would be appreciated.

is this cart stock (motor / controller).water levels in batteries ? a simple heat temp gun from lowes, home depot or harbor fright work well to check temps on terminals , motor and so on

You may be smelling the resistor coils burning off energy in the form of heat.

ill check the temps and I didnt think to see if the coils were really hot

That's the problem with the older resistor cars, they burn off energy in the form of heat.

I'm in the same boat as you with my '92 DS. Plans are to upgrade using scottyb's Solid State conversion.
