Speed Magnet vs CCSpeed Code 4
I have 07CC Precedent with Speed Code 4. My friend just got the same cart as mine. (Both with the top hat style speed sensor) the question is... Does the Speed Magnet get the same results as the Speed Code 4?
Thanks! |

Re: Speed Magnet vs CCSpeed Code 4
I believe the magnet does achieve the same speed, but I think it disables the regen braking too?
Someone who knows for sure should chime in... |

Re: Speed Magnet vs CCSpeed Code 4
Had speed code 4 on my CC , but didn't like the regen braking. Bought and installed the speed magnet. No more regen braking and seemed like just a tad more speed...maybe wishful thinking.... So for me the magnet is better than speed code 4.

Re: Speed Magnet vs CCSpeed Code 4
Just a quick question CartTrader - did you know if the Regen was set for "mild" on that cart (as I understand it can be). I've driven them with aggressive Regen braking and its a pain in the pants - but the ones I've driven on code #4 with minimal Regen seemed good to me.

Re: Speed Magnet vs CCSpeed Code 4
I didn't like the regen braking when I went downhill. Always felt like something was hitting the brakes and just felt odd!

Re: Speed Magnet vs CCSpeed Code 4
There is no "Regen" braking setting on the programmer for these controllers. What people generally refer to when they're talking about this adjustment is the "Pedal-Up Mode". It comes in three flavors... 0, 1, and 2. Zero being none and 2 being most aggressive. The pedal up function tells the car how to behave when you release the accelerator. On 2, it'll slow itself more abruptly than it would on 1 once you release. On zero it will coast and won't slow itself at all, but this doesn't "Remove" the regen braking. Every speed code has a top "allowed" speed based on RPM detected by the speed sensor. When the controller detects that you have reached the speed that it's set to run (Speed Setting 1, 2, 3, or 4) It will use regen braking to slow itself and keep the vehicle from exceeding that max speed no matter what the conditions. Uphill, downhill, upside down and sideways... doesn't matter. It won't let the vehicle go faster than that speed that it's programmed to acknowledge as it's "top" speed. This doesn't mean it's not capable of going faster, it simply means that it's electronically governed. So to answer the question of the original post, yes there is a difference between the two. The speed setting 4 will retain all factory regenerative braking features based on how you have the controller setup. It will not, under any circumstances, allow you to run faster than 19.6MPH on 18" tires. Period. Granted, most healthy carts are capable of slightly more speed than this, it doesn't matter. It won't allow it, electronically. The speed magnet is different. It cuts the speed pulses in half, which tricks the controller into thinking you're only going half as fast as what you're truly going. Therefore, it "Lifts" the electronic RPM limit to double what it would be with a factory 8-pole magnet. This keeps the regen braking from doing anything at all and it will also allow you to accelerate past 19.6 MPH. How fast? I don't know. How powerful is your cart?? There are LOTS of variables to contribute to this. Most factory equipped vehicles will see 21-22 MPH or so on level ground. If you were on speed code 4 with a speed magnet you'd have an electronic RPM limit to allow 39.2MPH.... but you're still driving a golf cart which simply doesn't have the power to get there.

Re: Speed Magnet vs CCSpeed Code 4
Also, NO MAX SPEED BLASTS DOWNHILL!! Even though the controller is tricked, the motor is still going faster, you can grenade your motor at 40+ mph, motor going insane rpms. You wont like what happens next!

Re: Speed Magnet vs CCSpeed Code 4

Re: Speed Magnet vs CCSpeed Code 4
It absolutely will. It will work with the same result no matter what code it's set on, with the exception of setting 1. Setting 2, 3, and 4 will all provide an electronic max allowed speed that is unattainable due to power limits of the vehicle.
