Default z-bracket

My 97 club car has a z lift that was on it when I bought it. I've heard nothing good of these lifts as far as strength and safety go. What if I made my on plates from a heavy 3/8's plates and made the bracket longer inside the frame on top and bottom. I also put have holes for 9 1/2" bolts instead of 6. I added 4" to the height of bracket but also have 3/4" angle running up and down on the inside of each one. Do yall think this modification will make whats is such a bad lift worth having?

I know what everyone says about these lifts. I bought a car with one as well. All I know for sure is that I have used this cart offroad in the mountains at the dunes and out in the desert and I have used it hard for two years with NO problems. Maybe I just got lucky, but few people will use a cart any harder than we do, with two adults, one of whom is 300 pds., and this lift has served us very well.

I bought a cart with one and added a 3 inch Jakes spindle on top of it . NO problems. I wouldn't want to install one but I wouldn't shy away from one either

The main thing you need to keep in mind about a Z-Lift is, they were or still are a factory authorized lift. I know Jakes is used on them now so I don't know or sure if they are still using the Z's. It's the fact that you have to cut the frame that scares people away.

Thats what I didn't like, but it has already been cut so I figured I might as well make it as strong as possible. I have two shops full of welders that need something to do. thanks

I'm not crazy about the cut frame part of it either, but like Scotty and ALOT of other people, the lift hasn't disappointed us. The way I see it, it's what I have, it's served me well and hopefully will continue to. If I bought another cart and it had one and it was a good deal, I'd still buy the cart. Probably not all Z lifts are exactly the same, so if you see a way to improve yours, I'd say by all means do it.
