I pulled the line and I don't think it's getting enough fuel from the pump. It's just a dribble coming out. I put a brand new pump in it and there's lots of air coming out of the engine. I've read that the entire fuel system get pressurized, my gas cap has the clear plastic cover cover broken off. Could that be effecting the pressure by not allowing it to build up?

Is the pump sealed airtight at the engine mount?

Yeah, I think so. I have the gasket and the black plastic piece on there under the pump.

There should also be a small black O ring between the pump, and the plastic spacer.

Also, the entire fuel system is not pressurized. From the pump output to the carb could build up a little pressure but only when the bowl is full and the float closes the needle/seat, The gas cap needs to be vented so if the clear cover is gone then it is indeed vented lol. You should get a new cap to prevent debris from entering, be sure to get a vented cap.

Another thing to check is the fuel pickup tube in the tank, simply unscrew the fitting on the top of the tank and remove. IF it's cracked or broken off it can't suck fuel

Ok, thanks guys!

Cart - yeah, I have the black o-ring as well.

Dabble - Thanks for the tank info. My gas tank has a solid non-removable outlet. Any way to check the line? I think I'll replace the outside line to the pump. It is 2 parts rubber and the middle is metal. Could be getting choked off there.

If you find out that the lines are good, and the new pump just isn't pumping, then you are down to crankshaft seals.

I took the flywheel off and there's a lot air coming out by the crankshaft when I turned the engine over. I assuming that means the seal needs replaced.

Yes, it needs to be airtight.

While you have the engine out, look into the exhaust port to make sure the piston is in the right way. You don't want to see any square holes staring back at you.
