Default Battery Storage

When I leave my cart in my garage for extended periods of time (3-6 months) I leave the charger plugged in. Is this the correct way to proceed? Appreciate any thoughts the board might have. Thanks.

That's Fine...
IMO... You shouldn't leave it "unattended" for long periods,
So, you should check the charger as often as possible, (at least weekly)
and, the battery water levels at least every month!

Leaving your charger plugged in won't keep your charger on, you have to manually unplug it and plug it back it in to charge it. If you are leaving it for long periods of time, put a full charge and disconnect the cables to break the circuit. That way you will have no juice flowing through the circuit.

It is a great idea, but very few charges have a float service feature. In other words it charges then shuts off. SEE THIS POST.

This sounds best for my situation since I am unable to check water levels during the period I am away. Is there any downside to disconnecting the cables? Also, should I disconnect all cables or just the circuit ending cables?

I have a 48 Volt Power Drive charger it is a CC charger made by Curtis.
in the 96/97 Maint. Service Manual , it has a section for the Charger.
One subtopic section is labeled "Off-Season Storage Charge"

This section says to leave the charger plugged up and every 15 Days it
will turn itself back on , analyze the Batteries if necessary.
It also states when returning the vehicle to service after storage ,
to unplug the DC receptical from the cart wait 20 seconds then plug
it back in and wait until full charge cycle completes.

hope this helps ?

On the CC with an OBC the OBC has a cycle of 15 days to charge batteries, if this is not possible disconect the batteries, charge before returning to service. Note on non-regen models have left connectered for the winter months, and will hold charge. Either way fully charge batteries before storage.

No... no down side, except touching the wrench to ground when loosening the positive side...
My 98 48V is sitting in the shed at my campsite,
with just the 2 main + and - cables disconnected (per the owners manual)

They've been that way since October... I was up 2 weekends ago,
hooked them back up, (so I could use it) plugged in the charger,
and the batteries were still almost fully charged!
maybe 20 minutes and the charger shut off.

If your not going to be around... disconnect the main battery cables!
