Default Charger or Batteries??

I have a 48 volt 99 club car with F&R switch. I just bought it. The previous owner told me that he didnt have any problems with it and I want to believe that he was telling the truth. He said that the swich was left on the day before I came to look at it and the batteries were completely dead. He charged them that day and I rode it down the road and back and it seemed fine. I put it on the charger last night and it was still charging this morning. The batteries were leaking . I rode it for about 20 min. and the cart started jerking at wide open throttle. what do you think my problem is. The batteries all have about 7 to 8.54 volts in them. ( trojans ) Thanks...

It sounds like a battery issue to me. Leaking batteries means he probably ran rhem too low and then filled them up before charging them. Now when you charge them they bubble over.

7.00 volts is a bad battery. Look at the the sticky at the top of this forum titled "State of charge". Once a battery gets down to 8.07 volts its already 50% discharged. Check each one and all total and post the resluts. I'm sure this will reveal alot about what is going on. 50.9 volts total after rest period once charge has kicked off is a good reading.

I believe it's time to not believe he was telling the whole truth... just enough to make the sale. You have battery issues... and that's going to be the biggest expense.

The key being on has no effect on the batteries, unless you have additional issues in addition to junk batteries...
