Default Overhead Speakers

Hello, Today I decided to remove, modify and reinstall my overhead speakers. They seemed a lot lower after the roof drop. The speakers are 6"x9" Sony Xplod that came with a stereo kit from Wally's. $99.99..The stereo was installed prior to my knowing of BGW, so there are no pictures of that. Same with the 6" speakers that were installed in the... kick plate? The boxes were at wally's for about $15.-20.00.
Here's what was done.

The first picture is the prior installation. There were 3 long wood screws shot though top. There were several from the bottom, inside, not penetrating the outer top skin. I took those down, too big and wobbly..
The second picture are the boxes after 1-1/2' was removed from the back.
Third picture shows the boxes from the back, showing the angle cut to push the speakers as far forward as possible.
The fourth shows the boxes re-enforced with window caulk and seal.
The fifth pic is a test fit, prior to insulation, holes are drilled here. 12"x1/4" bit, 1/4"x20x5' allthread, nuts and washers, top and bottom. leave extra threads for the insulation. The speakers are fairly deep so I couldn't slice off much and still clear the magnet. The skilsaw cut the fabric pretty well

After fitting and drilling, I applied 1/2"x1/2" weatherstip to the edge of the speaker boxes. This helps to eliminate any rattle or vibration from the speakers to roof and vice versa. It also helped to hide the frayed matererial and create a cleaner edge
One picture shows the ugly waterproofing on top. That's why... window caulking sealer, it's sandable and paintable silicone sealer is NOT paintable.
I plugged up all the other puncture wounds. Don't want water in the speakers!
It started to storm so I didn't take it out for pictures. I'll add better pics later....

The stereo kit $99.99 on sale
Speaker boxes $19.99 (or less)
Wire $4.00
Insulation 1/2x1/2x10' $3.00
allthread 1/4"x5' 4.00
nuts 3.00??
caulking 2.00 That looks like $136.98 for a 180 watt, 4 speaker, am/fm/cd/ipod port/remote pumpin stereo.
It's looks a lot better. Need good pics
If you wanted cleaner look, use carriage bolts from the bottom and a wood type connection on the top. For wheels on couches??? They are flush from the bottom and the leg screws in it. Use those on top and seal. You won't have a bolt sticking up..... WORK cart
Those nuts all have thread locker on em and the bottoms are also groud off...INDUSTRIAL STYLE

I just bought a car that didn't have a stereo. $500. dollar car. It'll probably get the same system. It works as good as anything for 100 bucks, they sound great!
