The wiper and contacts on the V-Glide were not making good contact. Rather than replacing parts on this 20 year old part, I decided to buy a 2-wire PB-6 style potentiometer. Plugged in the connections yesterday with the cart on jack stands and it seemed the wheel spin responded nicely to the new throttle. Hoping to mount it up later today. Thanks again!

Well, that didn't go as planned, I tried and tried, but couldn't get a full 5K from the meter. But, I did poke around the forum and found some posts recommending to mount the pot at an angle. Back to the drawing board. lol

EUREKA! I feel like I had to MacGyver the heck out of this project, but did eventually hit 5.03 at full throttle on my Ohm meter. I'm just glad this is done, for now.

Congratulations, Mike. You have done what many others have thought about doing. Using the original V-Glide drive rod makes it a very doable solution.

Very nice job!

Thanks Tom!

After reading quite a few posts regarding the need to keep the PB-6 dry, or risk problems...I decided to do my due diligence and try to shield it from water splashing up from the front wheels.

I decided to repurpose the former resistor coil heat shield as a splash shield.

It’s not perfect, but I think it will certainly help.

Tom,

Thanks again, a compliment coming from you, means a lot to a newbie like myself. 🙏

It took me a few visits to the shed and my local hardware store to come up with the little bits & pieces, but it did work out in the end. I can’t say that it didn’t cost me a nights sleep though. 😉

You're welcome, Mike. If you're like me, I'm sure it did keep you awake.

You may want to detail this conversion with a parts list for others. Gunpilot is new to the forum and trying to install the PB6 also. Maybe you can offer some suggestions to him. I did reference your thread.

Thanks Tom, I don’t see a drop-down option to message Gunpilot. I’ll work on adding specifics to my solution for the PB-6 conversion dilemma.

I purchased a Curtis 0-5K PB-6 clone from Amazon for around $60. I wound up using the hole closest to the pivot to shorten the throw enough to hit the 5K ohm mark. I used a step bit to enlarge the hole for a 1/4”x20x3/4” bolt. I needed to use a small nylon spacer, 2 flat washers and nylon locknut to connect the corner brace to the lever on the PB-6, in order to clear the backplate. I now remember trimming the forward mounting tab and flat washer to push the pb6 as far as possible, before hitting the solder blob on the cart’s frame.

The Simpson Strong Tie #LPC6Z ESR-2523 and 4 pack of National Corner Braces #V117 N113-928 from the local True Value hardware store. I had the two self tapping screws and 1” fender washers handy. I did have to do some minor cutting on the strong tie and corner brace (pencil lines). I also had to enlarge the holes on the corner brace for the 1/4”x20x3/4” bolt. I can’t recall the eye bolt size, I just brought the throttle rod into the hardware store to match one up.

Used PB Blaster and a small micro torch to loosen up the throttle slide lock and nut from the rod, in order to slide on the eye bolt.

I’m sure there’s more I left out, but please feel free to post any questions here.

Thanks Mike. I'm saving a copy of your write-up for future reference.

You almost make me wish I would have done this instead of converting to MCOR.
