Security
Outside of changing keys, what is the best way to secure your cart (precedent) when being left unattended? Any fancy ways to do it, besides leaving a pit bull chained to it?

Re: Security
Pit bull works. So does a bicycle cable lock from steering wheel to seat back support.

Re: Security
Radio controlled ignition circuit like in the new cars. You carry the controller in your pocket. A friend of mine has a Nissan that has a start button -- no key. If anyone but him gets in the car and tries to start it -- doesn't do anything.

I know that on my JD Gator it only takes a minute to pop the drive belt off.

Re: Security
A secretly hidden tow/run switch... You can hide a secret switch in plain sight too by using a cigar lighter as a switch, push in to run...

Re: Security
Would a toggle switch to cut off one side of the ignition switch hidden say in the glove box work, or would that cause any problems...

Re: Security
Basically one needs to protect from joy riders and lone wolf amateur thieves. So, don't spend big bucks on golf cart security.
6 guys with a low bed trailer can steal any golf car they want. Professionals can steal any golf car they want irrespective of electrical security systems, Club Locks, bicycle chains, or hidden kill switches. Tow trucks can steal a parallel parked Porsche or a golf car in 30 seconds. But, again the lone wolf amateur thief and the joy rider are the two main targets that one needs to guard against. And, that brings us back to the heavy duty bicycle chain. Turn the steering wheel full travel so the front wheels can be locked in the most disadvantageous position and then chain the steering wheel tight. If unable to look out a destination window and view the cart, park it in the most frequently viewed public place possible even if it means walking a few extra blocks. Lastly, like most Harley owners and convertible owners, make it routine to pick restaurants where sitting at a table with a parking lot view is easily accomplished. |

Re: Security
We started using the bicycle cable at 3 day horse shows where people would 'borrow' other people's cart when they they needed them. The combo is user set & the cable is sheathed in plastic to protect the steering wheel from scratches. Just the sight of the cable suspended across the seating area says 'move on, look someplace else for a joy ride'
