72v Precedent?
In my quest for more hill climbing torque and 25mph speed, I am saving up the money to do a motor, controller and cable upgrade soon. At the same time, I know my almost 6 year old battery pack will need replacement. This got me thinking about a 72v pack, controller and motor. The price should be about the same, I think. I've seen guys do it with Lithium cells from wrecked Leafs and Volts but they seem like a complete custom job and very expensive. I'm already struggling to pay for the 6x8v batteries. Would six 12v batteries work? Does anyone make a suitable 12v that will fit in place of the 8v? I know range will suffer but my longest day would be 5 miles up and down some steep hills. If my aging and abused pack can handle that now, certainly a 6x12 could do it, no?
