Batteries are "gurgulling"?
Man, it really never ends does it?
Got the batteries connected properly after being a doe doe and removing the cable to controller then wondering for 8 hours why it won't charge... Now I had it plugged in over night, came to check on it and the batteries are "gurgulling" - they sound like my stomach after a full Papa John's and a 6 pack of Guiness. What's happening here? |

Re: Batteries are "gurgulling"?
Oh man.... now I'm confused.
Just read in another post that it's normal. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...-sizzling.html What to do? I'm going to unplug the charger and check the water now. Batteries are only 6 months old.. |

Re: Batteries are "gurgulling"?
Water is just above the... don't know what they are called - coils? Going to get some distilled water in a bit and fill them. How high do I fill?

It actually occurs throughout recharging, but becomes most noticeable during the last 10% of the charge when the on charge voltage climbs above 2.35V per cell (42.3V on a 36V pack). The last 10% is State of Charge, not time. Unlike getting the SoC up to 90%, the last 10% isn't as efficient and some of the charge current breaks down the water in the electrolyte into its component parts. (aka electrolysis) The gassing is the hydrogen and oxygen gases generated by the electrolysis of the water in the electrolyte, bubbling to the surface. (This is why water has to be added periodically. Distilled water only - No sulfuric acid is lost by electrolysis) If the battery cells are too full, the bubbling will cause some of the electrolyte to bubble out and the top of the battery gets wet. If the battery cells aren't filled enough, the plates are exposed to air and the portion of the plate that is exposed, quickly becomes irreversibly sulfated. Here is link to Trojan about water level. http://www.trojanbattery.com/Battery...ngDiagram.aspx (While you are there, check out the related links listed on the right side. Lots of good battery info there.) |

Re: Batteries are "gurgulling"?
Are we all clear on this now? Gurgulling, boiling, whatever, is all the sound of gassing. Gassing is a normal part of the recharge cycle. Older batteries do tend to gas more but that's the subject of another thread.
Sorry to read somebody posted bad information and led you to unplug the batteries before they were done recharging. Ride it around a few minutes today and recharge.... here is the battery fill line illustration... I know pics help |

Mineral content according to Voss's website. Sodium - Na : 6 Calcium - Ca : 5 (5,000 times the allowable amount) Magnesium - Mg : 1 (1,000 times the allowable amount) Chloride - Cl : 12 (12,000 times the allowable amount) Fluoride - F : 0.1 Sulfate - SO4 : 5 pH : 6 TDS : 44 (44,000 times the allowable amount) Only pure water (H2O or Dihydrogen Monoxide - aka Hydrogen Hydroxide) should be added to batteries. |

Re: Batteries are "gurgulling"?
GD it, I can't do anything right!!
I was searching and searching, thought VOSS was pure... Only added about an 1/4 ounce to each battery, they were pretty full. Hopefully didn't do too much damage |
