Default Governor adjustment question

I hope this isn't a dumb question. I've read the posts about adjusting the governor. I have the newer type with the one nut on the long threaded bolt that goes through the spring. If I adjust it, do I need to hold the long threaded bolt and tighten the nut on it in order to tighten the spring? Or do I turn the whole thing, nut and bolt? Thanks in advance.

You need to hold the rod while you tighten the nut

Oh I forgot one more question: what is the best thing to use to hold the bolt so I won't damage the threads?

I just held it with my fingers, but if it is too tight for that just put a shop towel between some plyers and bam... instant no damage hold 'em tight thing a ma bobber.
