Default Driven clutch problem

I just put my cart back together and now the belt just slips on the drive clutch. What causes the belt to grip on the drive clutch shaft?

Any suggestions?

Can you push the movable sheave towards the engine by hand (engine OFF please)? If so, then it may be an issue with the weights inside. If NOT, the sheave is either rusted or somehow stuck on the shaft.

I'll check that in the morning. If it doesn't move, I'll give WD40 a try.

Not a good idea! I would probably remove the clutch from the engine and disassemble it, clean it piece-by-piece, give all the moving parts and touching parts a lube job with graphite or another dry lube, and stick it back together and on the shaft. Wet lubes are not good for these clutches as they attract dust and dirt.

Well the clutch decided to heal itself. After testing it over and over again while the cart was up on jack stands, it eventually started to work. Finally got to take it for a ride.

Thanks to all for your suggestions.
