1988 Gas Marathon won't turn over
Battery good, new solenoid. The Solenoid kinda buzzes when I try to start it. F/R switch looks like it has 2 micro switches. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks for reading!

Re: 1988 Gas Marathon won't turn over
The 88 manual is in post 22 here. https://buggiesgonewild.com/showthre...=105501&page=3
If the solenoid is buzzing, you are losing voltage somewhere. A full battery is 12.74 volts. If voltage drops to 9.6 volts or less when you step on the pedal, it's a failed load test. You could have a loose or corroded ground. You could also have hidden corrosion in the positive battery cable. The micro switch on the left is for the reverse buzzer. Nothing else. The lower right micro switch is called the neutral safety switch. It closes in both forward and reverse. It is connected in series with the pedal and key switches. Did you buy a continuous duty golf cart solenoid? |

Yes, it's continuous duty. "Left, Right" is that from standing behind the cart? Thank you

Re: 1988 Gas Marathon won't turn over
Well, the battery was the problem. I've had this cart for 15 years or so and I have never seen a battery just go off a cliff like this one did. Previous batteries would get weaker and weaker on starts and trickle charging would perk them up.
This one was kicking the engine over pretty good on the last start and then 5 minutes later I went to start again and there was nothing. Trickle charging 24 hours made no difference. Live and learn. |
