I wire the tach in with the power and the ground and just as a test run the plug sensor wire right to the tach over the seat to make sure everything is functioning before actually routing the sensor wire. It plugs in easily enough. P.S. Wonder why he had an extra sensor unit on hand ? Luckily for us experimenters Equus sells them as a separate replacement part

8068 plug wire clamp. I sleeved the plug wire with clear vinyl tubing for a snug fit. The tubing was notched so the inductive pickup could 'see' the plug wire.

I ended up replacing both coils and the coil diode today, with proper gap. I am pretty sure this was my issue as this buggy has come to life. The 8068 will work both ways on my buggy, the green wire connected directly to the coil diode OR the pickup cable over the spark plug wire as described above.

This coincides with the info on the side of the 8068 box. Here's a photo. Thanks for the help!

Great it all worked out That is just the tach to use on engine swaps other than diesel
