Plum Quick Motor
Got my Bandit upgrade motor back and installed it today along with 2 gauge wire kit, gained 5 mph! I have an 03' ez go txt with 22" tires. Now im thinking about a 400 amp controller as thats what the guys at Plum Quick recommend for the Bandit upgrade if I want more umph. Any suggestions on a controller? They said I could go up to 500 amps but I dont think I need that much and would like to keep it in the midrange price. Guess I'll have to do a solenoid too. Oh it's 36 volts

Re: Plum Quick Motor
Is it series or pds? I'd definitely go alltrax so you have the option of going 48v in future oh and it's water resistant.

Re: Plum Quick Motor
Its a series cart, I was concerned about the programmable controllers, what exactly is involved in programming them? Guess I was kinda of hoping for a plug n play . What all is involved in going to 48 volts other than buying 6 eight volt batteries?

the best thing we can suggest is for you to get in contact with ScottyB here or at his site at CartsUnlimited.net and you will find the price difference between the 400 and 500 is not much. with that in mind, get the 500 as it will actually give you more options down the road if/when you do other upgrades that require or will want more power.....and then you will already be set up with it. As far as the programming goes, if you get it from ScottyB, he will set it up for you based on your set up, so it will be P-N-P, and YES you need a new SD Solenoid, and I highly recommend you get a HD F&R switch as well, to complete you high current loop. at ScottyB's site, there are a number of packages that will save you some cash as well. http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Custom_Options.html you can see my set up in my sig.....I too have a 36v TXT Series cart. |

Re: Plum Quick Motor
Sir Nuke, thank you very much, yes I bought a complete set of wires, they are high strand count welding wire and very flexible which made for a clean organized install. (I'm a little anal about things) thanks again and when I'm ready I'll get a hold of Scotty

Re: Plum Quick Motor
mrclean......I am the same way.....I did a complete rebuild/overhaul of my cart and when I was done, it was cleaner and neater then any factory fresh cart, that is for sure! lol
just a caution, seeing as how you have larger tires, and now with the new motor, I would be guessing you will most likely pushed your cart harder, at least faster.....so I bet the amperage draw will be higher.....putting more stress on your stock controller, so I wouldn't wait very long..... as you know how Murphy will jump up and bite you in the butt at the most inopportune ...... like MILES from home, lol |

Re: Plum Quick Motor
Crown Man.....golf carts were/are designed to run 18.5" tires.....the bigger you go, the more stress that is put on the delivery system, meaning the batteries, cables, controllers, solenoids, etc..... You will find people here that will tell you that they ran a long time, sometimes even a year or more on big tires.......but once you start modifying your cart and or using it for things it truly wasn't designed for......you will have a failure sooner than later.......so it's not really recommended to run anything larger than a 20", or you are asking for trouble.......sooner or later

Re: Plum Quick Motor
I'm actually thinking of going down to 20's it came with 22 on it and when I went for a 2 mile ride the other day of varying speeds when I got back my motor was really warm, almost hot. I could put my hand on it but she was very warm. I'm going to call the guys at plum quick Monday. All the wiring and everything else was barely warm.
