Default G2 to G9 conversion --- the easy way.

The G2 I bought for $400 last year just didn't look like the G2 I bought a couple weeks ago for $50 ... quite a few details were different. Different voltage regulator, different trim around the windshield/dash, ... just little things. Tonight I finally decided to check out the serial # ... and it turns out my old G2 is now a G9! #JG5 200976 which makes it a '93. Guess I shouldn't have taken the sellers word for it. :-( Is a G9 better or worse? Are their any differences I should be concerned with? Besides the regulator are there electrical/mechanical differences?
One good thing --- I'm now eligible for the G9 Club!! I'm looking forward to being a member of this exclusive group! You guys aren't going to "blackball" me for my screw up, are you?

Not a chance of getting blackball'd here Troubadour :) Wow, what a dream come true. Go to sleep thinking you had a G2 and wake up owning an awsome G9!

Oh I don't know! If you were dealing with G8 people, there might be a problem here!!

I hear the 9'ers take anybody!

Have fun, enjoy, you just eliminated the rev control! Good work!

Congrats on the G9. I have a G2 and G9. Like them both. Only downside to the G2 is the rev limiter. I do like the trimwork better on a G2 though. Little more stylish looking.

Not much difference; G2 tend to have tube a arms not stamped, more compression, alum trim on cubby, white painted column and rocker, a black rocker trim piece, mostly pre '91 iirc, and have the rev limit in the ignitor of course. Some of them seem to have more stuff like a heat guard over the muffler, more black pads on the outside body, oil level light, a cover under the engine, etc. Some of that might have been accessories you could buy don't know. I'd say a G9 is nicer just because its newer, aside from the rev limit if you need to run it faster I don't think most other differences mean much.

Thanks guys. After really looking at both carts I did notice a few more differences (which you have mentioned) -- but the only thing that really means much is the rev limiter. That is good news! And the eligibility for the G9 club, of course! :-)

Rev limit is a pain who wants the thing cutting out, but I ran against one and the speed difference is not that much it just will not pull much more rpm anyway.

Perhaps it is more the IDEA of someone/something setting a limit rather than the reality of the limit. Just seems wrong for some reason. I think most guys converting the mundane golf cart to something really fun and personal lean towards being "rebels" (not the Southern type) anyway... like a kid being told he can't ride his bike across the street --- we ALL know how that story is going to end up! :-)

G2 - G9 don`t matter when you have a big block in it
