I don't think you need to mod the crank, the pulley does not take up that much space and also the shaft does not have to go into the clutch all the way. I don't know how far it needs but taper clutches only go in about 1". A few people have had issue with the key going through both but not sure what the issue was.

How much space is there between the fan and the gas tank? I need to add a performance 670 Alternator kit to it if I am going to use this engine.

Can anyone measure and or post a picture?

Yours is a G2?

Here's a pic of mine in a G1, very similar in size. My swingarm/mount is from a G2. It's tight. The Yamaha's are among the tightest fits of the golf carts because of the frame design.
