Question G1 4" All Sport Lift Problem

Hey All,

Put on my new All Sport lift on my 89 G1. All was going well when I found that the clutch cover was resting on the frame rail. Everything I had read about this lift kit said no other modifications required. Here are a couple of pics of the cover. Any suggestions would be appreciated as to how to cure the interference issue.

Thanks,
Joe
89 G1 4" lift in the front for now.

Joe, some guys notch out the tube in that area, some heat it up and dent it with the ball end of a ball pean hammer. My clutch cover isn't that big on my 80 G1.
I just noticed in your sig you only raised the front, jack up the back and see if it clears

Thats the wrong clutch for a g-1. It appears to be off a g2. Thats not gonna work.

I stand corrected, That clutch was used on some late model g1s. Never seen one before, but checked with Yamaha and there it was. That looks like a little to much to notch out.

i have the EXACT same clutch on my G1 and i did a 4 inch lift. I cut my frame and moved it out enough to clear and rewelded and gusseted it. works great now. I didnt really want to do it but it didnt take hardly any time...maybe an hour with pulling the gas tank and everything

Thanks for the reply Newbylee:

I had the rear lift installed when I found the cover resting on the frame, I also set the cart on the ground to see if that changed the interference, unfortunately it didn't, so I dropped the rear back to stock until I can reslove the issue.

Did you take any photos of your frame mod? I'm curious if a different clutch might help like this one, http://www.cartpartsplus.com/yamaha-...rf-clutch.html though it appears it could be nearly as big as the one one there now.

Can anyone say what the diameter of the tubing in the G1 frame is? I believe it has a 1/8" wall thickness, but the cart is at the campground and I would like to have my materials together for this weekend.

Thanks,
Joe

Pix of frame mods for the later clutch. These are posted somewhere on this forum and I saved them for future reference. I did not note who originally posted them, however. Thank you whoever you are.

Thanks for the link, your cart is looking great! Theres a huge difference between a 79 clutch and an 89 clutch by looking at your pics.
