Default 2008 EzGo Electric will not reverse

Hello all and thanks in advanced for any and all help. I have a 2008 ezgo golf cart. I'm not sure on the series but it has the f/r switch in the dash and a tow switch under the seat. Everything has worked fine until a few weeks ago my reverse quit working. The buzzer still sounds and sometimes it will move a couple of feet and kick out. It does fine moving foward with no issues. Also, my LED lights do not work anymore.

You have a PDS drive system (SepEx motor)

If the cart runs normally in Forward, but doesn't run normally in Reverse and the Beeper is sounding, the controller is probably bad.

Thanks for your reply! Could it be just a bad connection being that it works sometimes or should I just replace the whole controller?

Controller is a very broad term. Here it means the thing that regulates the power from the batteries going to the motor. They ain't cheap.

Now is a good time to upgrade the cart for more speed and torque for less than the cost of the OEM unit.

Crap. lol, i guess the truth hurts sometimes. Won't the upgrades mean less battery life on a single charge? And if I did choose to upgrade, is an average mechanically inclined joe able to do such?

The key symptom is that the Beeper is sounding when Reverse is selected.
That means the controller is being told to go into the reverse mode, which is switching direction of the current flow through the field winding and sounding the Reverse warning beeper. The beeper is sounding, but the motor doesn't always running in reverse, so the controller isn't doing everything it is being told to do.

How far the cart will travel on a single charge will stay about the same. The run-time will be shorter if the cart goes faster, but the distance traveled actually stays about the same.

The top speed of a stock PDS in Freedom mode is about 18MPH. Toss an Alltrax DCX400 in it and it'll do about 24MPH with a 36V battery pack.

Check out the #808 kit on the linked website: http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Custom_Options.html

The installation is fairly easy.

Whatever you do, remember to flip the Run/Tow switch to Tow before disconnecting or reconnecting any wires or cables.

Note: The LED lights not working is a separate issue.

Thank you JohnnieB for your detailed reply. I guess I will look into upgrading. I only joy ride my golf cart around my neighborhood and make an occassional 2 mile drive to town. I also travel down paths where I have to "take it easy".

I guess I should also mention that I have 23" tires and 6" lift. I'm not sure if that matters for the upgrade.
