Default 48V TXT With Completely Dead Batteries

At work i have been the cart mechanic for a few weeks now and have learned alot. Today a contractor can to me and said they have 2 carts. One hasnt been charged or ran in over 4 years and the rearend is currently locked up. The other they said hasnt been charged or ran in about 8 months.

They told me if i can get the one running thats only been sitting for 8 months they will give us the other cart.

Anyways the 6-8V battery back is at 1.8V, yes i mean the entire pack together, not each battery. Because its so low the charger doesnt even know its hooked up to the cart and doesnt kick on. How can i go about "tricking" the charger to start to see if the batteries will even charge?

Thanks Wayne

You can leave the batteries all wired up. Using a regular 12 volt charger, go around the pack charging one battery at a time, 10 amps or less, 20 or 30 minutes each. Then see what you've got. If the batteries have any life left in them that should bring you up enough to get the charger to kick on.

Thanks, that’s exactly what I did and it worked. I do believe 2-3 batteries are bad but the carts charger does recognize it now but the odd thing is I would expect the charger amp meter to go all the way to 20 but it’s only getting to 2-4amps. Going to leave it over night and load test tomorrow.

I would do the overnight charge a few cycles to see what comes up...before giving up on them. They may come back.
