Default Solenoids failing -mzj-400

Just had another solenoid fail. That’s 2 in a few months. Anyone else having this issue. Running proper diodes and resistor. Charging pack to 56.7v

Is the voltage too much for these. It doesn’t seem like anyone else is having these fail?

You may be exceeding what they can handle voltage wise. You need to find a 58v solenoid.

Measure the resistance of the coil on the Solenoid that failed.

At the 200kohm setting I am getting .3 on the one that just failed and .2 on the previous bad solenoid

Can You measure it again with a lower scale like 2kΩ just to confirm?

It looks like the bottom N.C. contacts that by-pass the L2 "holding coil" during startup is stuck and the coil is still in the circuit.

If the reading is around 300Ω try tapping the bottom with a wood handle and see if the resistance drops to around 16Ω.

If it does not try taking the bottom screw off and check the contacts.

Ok. I bumped
The bottom of both of them. Rested at new setting and have .020 On one and .318 on the other one

I took cap off on the .020 one and the contact is closed. I can lift it up but it latches back down

That one should work now if you power it up, assuming it went from 200 ohm down to 20 ohms.

Closed is the correct state of the bottom contact to bypass the L2 holding coil.

What make/model meter are you using, I may be misunderstanding your reading?

Here are a couple pics.

I opened up bottom of other solenoid, and lifted up the magnet a few times and now seems to be making proper contact

Pic 1- Solenoid #1

Pic 2-3. Solenoid # 2 before and after readings

So it looks like both are reading 16-20 ohms. Is this a proper range? Is there anything else to look at?

It does looks like the bottom contact was not closing before and that L2 coil was still in Series (300Ω total resistance) which would have prevented the solenoid main contacts from closing.

That Solenoid should be working now since only the L1 coil (16Ω) is showing, did you try it?

I have the same solenoid since before I converted my XCT 500 cart to Nissan Leaf cells and it works fine, lots of other folks here use the same solenoid with their Leaf lithium setup as well, they should work up to 60v.

How was it mounted? I had one fail that was mounted orange side up, and it was recommended to me to have it mounted sideways. My new one has worked much longer now without trouble mounted orange side sideways. Just a thought.
