Question What happens if you flip the F/R switch while going full speed?

I had a question from a friend riding on my cart that kind of scared me.

We were driving and he pointed at the F/R switch and goes "what happens if I push it in reverse while you're driving?"

I immediately thought "oh god, no idea but keep your hands away from it."

Now I'm curious/worried it might happen...anyone know?

I don't know but have gotten the same question and subsequent same fear.

The dealer was explicit that I should really be at a full stop before switching and I've felt the jerk when I accidentally did it too quickly once.

I've felt a jerk too when reversing then flipping forward while there was still a little momentum in reverse.

I'm terrified of taking a kid on the cart and they might just flip it.

Please realize that my experience is with a CLUB CAR, not an Icon like you have. But it was very bad. https://buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=170422

Not going to lie, the mental picture of a little kid getting launched off the seat is pretty funny, but that's kind of scary to hear.

I'm hoping somebody has already tried it on their ICON and can report back. Some good info in that thread though...just not sure if it applies or not.

I looked at the picture of your club car switch and that's terribly positioned if you have little people riding with you.

The big concern for me was the "jerk" I felt when reversing then flipping to FWD while there was a little momentum. I'm wondering though if they have that same safety though...foot on accelerator prevents anything, which would explain the jerk because I was braking when changing direction.

This is what I know.

If I don't fully release the GO pedal and leave it ever so slightly depressed (to where cart is NOT moving but pedal is still slightly pressed from weight of foot), and I change from F to R or R to F, the cart doesn't actually change the mode until I fully release the pedal. I have had my foot resting on pedal, changed to reverse or forward and pushed the pedal and nothing. Fully lift foot off pedal and push again and I get power.

I think unless the throttle is fully to 0 the gear change doesn't actual take affect at controller.

I’ve questioned about the cart not going into reverse and having to pump the pedal for it to engage and was told it was a safety. Cart has to be stopped and there’s a delay before it’ll go into reverse, no quick shifting into reverse.

I don't think tossing it in reverse is a good idea. That's what brakes are for.

My F\R switch is where the old "crank" TXT was located. I cut a chunk of rubber fender and bolted it to the box right above the F\R switch. My grandkids have short little legs that will accidentally hit the switch. The chunk of rubber prevents that.

Turn the switch over until the kids grow up

Why run the risk of trashing a new and perfectly good cart
and or even run the risk of suffering injury to yourself?
