Re: 1988 EZGO Marathon Engine Swap...Newbee here!
Hey guys, the guy I'm supposed to get the rear 4 stroke transaxle from sent me a pic. Does this seem like the right kind for my v twin swap? He said it's a 4 stroke but it looks like it's missing some stuff.

it's missing the governor externals, the shift arms and linkage, and of course the clutch (yours won't work either) ... But it's def a place to start

Re: 1988 EZGO Marathon Engine Swap...Newbee here!
Ok thanks! My old man neighbor has an electric ezgo that he said looks just like my at a friends house and he said I can have what ever I want off of it. I hope there's some good parts I c an use from it. So do you think $250 is a good price for that axle?

Still in search of a 94 and up EZGO rear transaxle for the swap. Anyone have one?? I need to start working on this cart. Here's some pics of the 992 generac that My buddy has for me. It has about 15 hours on it but it's been sitting for a while.

Re: 1988 EZGO Marathon Engine Swap...Newbee here!
I have searched the forum for custom cradles for the generac 992cc engine and I think I found some good pics and good info on custom builds. But, I can use all the info I can get. My first question is can I use my existing swingarm (1988 gas marathon) and modify it to run with the generac using a the 1998 ezgo rear axle? I should be getting my neighbors electric marathon soon to use parts from also if that's any use. If my original swingarm/cradle can be modified to work... any suggestions on what I can do? I've seen people build their cradles to sit a little lower and extended a few inches. I know this part is critical so all the help I can get is much appreciated!

I was thinking about using a Honda goldwing engine with reverse in my 88 Marathon any ideas on how that would work

Re: 1988 EZGO Marathon Engine Swap...Newbee here!
I've thought about this engine in a cart for several years. I doubt any golf cart rear differential would be adequate and never found any reasonable alternative. Without getting serious about this swap and getting some accurate measurements I'm nor sure the space available for a driveshaft or other way of getting power from the engine to the rearend is realistic without stretching the wheelbase or starting with one of the longer utility carts
The Gold Wings with reverse, 1500 cc and larger don't have reverse in the transmission. It is achieved by using the starter motor and battery power to achieve reverse. In theory it should be relatively easy to use in a cart. Simply a matter of wiring and switching, etc. Just a little food for thought. |
