Default 2003 G22 Compression Release????

Hi guys, I have a 2003 G22 that died while riding it the other day. Can anyone verify that there is or is not a compression release on these things. It is showing about 50lbs compression. The spark is very weak too so I am thinking that is the problem... too... Any help would be great!

They do not have a compression release. If your compression is at 50 PSI, it sounds like you have some other issue (burnt valve possibly) to deal with. A weak spark is another issue, but it could be as simple as a spark plug or possibly a igniter coil.

Does your engine have a sticker that say's "JN6" or "JR7"? 2002's call for a JN6-12171-00-00 cam's, but 2003 to 2015 call for JR7-12170-00-00 cam's. Sorry, I don't have an awnser for this one. Time to pull the side case.

Thanks for the responses guys. It is a JR6 engine. Is a burnt valve apparent from the top side? I guess a leak down test is in order. I did compare it to another exact model cart and it showed about 50 psi until I put the accelerator down all the way and then it shot up to 150. of course, I put mine all the way to the floor and was still 50lbs so that piece of info was irrelevant I guess...

Check governor shaft for cable movement while pressing the accelerator pedal.

X2... Look inbetween the valve cover and the airbox, you can see the arm on top of the carb (it is plated, kinda gold looking). Is it moving when pedal is pressed?

What these guys are saying, is make sure throttle cable is not broken.

Then make sure push rod is has not slipped off lifter, so intake valve is not opening.

Although i dont think this is your problem, technically, the G22 does have a form of compression release. The camshaft has a weight and rod that holds the exhaust open when at very low (cranking) speeds.

You guys rock!!!! It is the throttle cable. Pushed the pedal and the cable didn't move, actuated it by hand and she fired right up! Right in front of my eyes and I never seen it.
